The operation to move equipment for Ushuaia's new power plant completed the unloading of 25% of the items carried by ship during its first two days. The components were removed from the vessel and taken to the site where the energy plant is being built. The progress marks the first quarter of a manoeuvre that will continue over the coming days with large-dimension loads.
The logistics operation has so far moved 98 packages weighing approximately 1,500 tonnes. Fifteen trucks and five low-loaders were used to connect the unloading point with the construction site, completing 86 trips. Those figures describe two linked tasks: lowering each component from the ship and completing its overland transfer to the location where it will be incorporated into the project.
The plan calls for more than 250 trips before the entire unloading process is complete. The expected total places the first 86 movements in an early phase, still below half of the planned logistical route. It also shows that the percentage of equipment unloaded and the number of trips are not identical measures, because each package has different dimensions and weight and requires suitable transport.
Tierra del Fuego Energy Minister Gabriela Castillo said the operation is proceeding normally and within the established timing and parameters. Her assessment concerns execution of a process that must coordinate oversized equipment, cargo vehicles and access to the site. She described the movement as unprecedented for Ushuaia and the province because of the number and size of the components involved.
The first balance therefore combines a percentage of progress with material results: 98 packages have left the ship, around 1,500 tonnes have reached the site and twenty vehicles of different types are maintaining the route. The work does not end at the port, since every component must complete the transport stage to the plant. The number of trips therefore serves as an operating indicator alongside the volume landed.
With 25% unloaded, most of the equipment remains to be moved, including the larger items announced for the coming days. The next verifiable point will be the growth in total trips towards the threshold above 250 and the arrival of the complete set of components at the site. Only then will this logistical phase of Ushuaia's new power plant be finished.
