National deputy Jorge “Koky” Araujo filed a formal request with Governor Gustavo Melella and provincial Economy Minister Alejandro Barrozo for documentation on revenue-sharing transfers to Ushuaia and Río Grande. The request opens a dispute over debt, payment criteria and municipal predictability.
The demand covers the period from January 1 through October 31, 2026. Araujo asked for the amounts the province was required to transfer, the sums actually sent, funds still pending and the administrative documentation supporting each transaction.
The filing also seeks an explanation of the financial and legal criteria used by the executive branch to order payments. The deputy wants to know which obligations receive priority, what procedures are applied and whether a formal schedule exists to clear arrears owed to both municipalities.
A central issue is the comparison between Ushuaia and Río Grande. Araujo asked whether the two cities receive shared revenues through equivalent mechanisms and, if there are differences, requested the province's justification and the data supporting that treatment.
The request comes as Río Grande claims the provincial debt exceeds 17 billion pesos. Municipal officials say delays affect planning, services and current obligations and are examining which institutional tools could be used to recover the money.
Representatives of the municipal executive, city council, misdemeanor court and audit tribunal met to assess the impact of the debt. They also considered possible joint action if transfers are not normalized or if no documented response is provided.
Araujo said his request does not presume discrimination against Río Grande. He described the objective as gathering verifiable information before drawing conclusions and determining whether differences result from objective rules, general financial problems or discretionary decisions.
The next move belongs to the provincial government, which must decide whether to provide the requested details and a payment schedule. The quality of that response will determine whether the conflict remains an administrative dialogue or develops into political, accounting or judicial claims.
