Governor Maximiliano Pullaro inaugurated the new Health Center of barrio Las Vegas, in Santo Tomé, and used the event to defend the continuity of public works in Santa Fe. The Province reported an investment of more than ARS 632 million to recover a building that had been abandoned, vandalized, and deteriorated. The intervention took nine months and transformed the existing structure into a primary care facility for the community.
The Ministry of Public Works indicated that only the walls were preserved from the original construction. The works included new roofs, waterproofing of slabs, renovation of electrical and plumbing installations, floors, aluminum openings, grilles, interior and exterior finishes. A perimeter fence, access points, and community spaces were also incorporated. The official description presents a comprehensive reconstruction and not a minor repair of the acquired property.
The center will operate from 7 to 14 and will provide general medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, medical clinic, dentistry, psychiatry, nursing, and social work. It has a waiting room, admission, offices, pharmacy, support areas, restrooms, pathological waste storage, and machine room. Outside, playgrounds and bike racks were added. The building will also be the headquarters of the Interdisciplinary Community Mental Health Residency.
Workers and neighbors pointed out that the wait to have the completed headquarters lasted almost nine years. During that period, the healthcare team continued providing services under other conditions. The inauguration addresses the building component, but the effective capacity will depend on professional staffing, shifts, supplies, referrals, and maintenance. These indicators will make it possible to determine whether the new infrastructure expands coverage and continuity of care in the neighborhood. Extended hours and coordination with higher-complexity hospitals will be especially important to prevent primary care from functioning in isolation.
Pullaro stated that Santa Fe maintains an unprecedented pace of public works despite the difficulties of the national economy and the cuts made by other administrations. He attributed this capacity to austerity, efficiency, and transparency in the use of resources. The statement constitutes a political assessment of his administration.
