Governor Ignacio Torres stated that a possible agreement between PRO and La Libertad Avanza must be accompanied by a development agenda and not be limited to an electoral alliance. He presented his position during the AmCham Energy Forum, where he also spoke about the Chubut calendar for 2027 and the rules with which the province will organize its elections.
Torres stated that democratic competition is healthy, but he asked that any understanding explain what the spaces meet for. As a reference, he mentioned the coalition that supports his provincial administration, made up of sectors of Peronism, Radicalism, the PRO, and libertarian leaders. He identified the point of agreement in natural resources, employment, and institutional predictability.
The governor considered that a national agreement would make sense if it translates into a parliamentary agenda capable of sustaining policies beyond each election. He also highlighted the cooperation between provinces governed by different forces to defend and develop their resources. His proposal expresses a political condition: an understanding between PRO and LLA remains only a possibility and was not announced as a closed pact.
At the provincial level, he anticipated that the elections in Chubut will be held separately from the national ones in 2027. The intention is for the provincial and municipal elections to take place jointly, but the date has not yet been defined. Torres explained that the schedule will also depend on a potential reform of the electoral system.
The governor linked the separation of elections with the need to prevent electoral discussions from generating uncertainty about the economic direction and investments. He proposed building consensuses capable of withstanding political volatility and avoiding that basic priorities be reconsidered every four years. That approach will still have to be translated into formal decisions regarding the date, convocation, and applicable regulations.
Torres also defended the elimination of the PASO and the paper ballot already adopted in Chubut. He argued that this tool reduces costs and improves transparency, and questioned primaries without internal competition. The scenario therefore combines three definitions: a condition for possible national alliances, the decision to separate elections, and an electoral reform still pending specification.
