Luis Petri has intensified his Mendoza tours and positioned himself as LLA's potential successor to Alfredo Cornejo. He has not been asked to withdraw, remains in contact with Javier Milei and appears competitive in government-linked polls.
He could run inside an LLA–Cambia Mendoza alliance or through another vehicle. Petri has councillors, legislators, technical teams in Mendocinos por el Futuro and the possible ballot of the Democratic Party.
Options include Cornejo leading a ticket with libertarian Facundo Correa Llano, Petri becoming the agreed candidate, or his group receiving positions while preserving a 2031 path. None is settled.
National strategy also matters. Milei wants loyal governors for major bills and views Mendoza and Buenos Aires City as potential strongholds for his re-election project.
Cornejo does not want to eliminate provincial primaries. Keeping them would organise internal competition, while a direct LLA accord may require one candidate and could push Petri to run separately.
There is still no ticket or selection rule. The next step is whether the alliances renew and how they choose a nominee, determining whether Petri is heir, internal rival or independent challenger.
