The business association counted about 100 inactive establishments downtown and more than 120 when surrounding areas were included. Televisions, Argentina jerseys and sporting goods sold better during the tournament, but the association rejected the idea that this represented a general recovery.

The Centro Comercial e Industrial de Paraná registered around 100 closed establishments in the downtown area and a figure exceeding 120 when including the surrounding zones. The entity noted that there are some relocations and searches for cheaper properties, but maintained that most of the vacant spaces correspond to businesses that have ceased operating. The count describes a territorial stock, not necessarily closures that occurred on a single date.

The Football World Cup produced a visible improvement in specific sectors. Sales of televisions, Selección Argentina jerseys, balls, sportswear, flags, party supplies, and other items related to the tournament and celebrations increased. The enthusiasm generated a real commercial boost, although concentrated on certain products and weeks.

CeCIP refused to interpret this movement as a recovery of the whole. The vast majority of sectors maintained levels similar to those of previous weeks and did not show a significant upturn. The World Cup result was, in business terms, punctual and sectorial. Separating both levels prevents the improvement of some businesses from hiding the continuity of the crisis in the rest.

The winter break also did not change the overall scenario. Despite the flow of visitors and the school holidays, sales remained stable and did not reach the expected dynamism for the season. Local commerce continued to be affected by the loss of purchasing power, the increase in operating costs, tax pressure, and the caution of consumers who postpone spending.

Vacancy has an effect that goes beyond each establishment. SMEs generate private employment, support suppliers, and bring activity to commercial streets. For this reason, the entity has called for policies to strengthen the domestic market, encourage local consumption, and improve the conditions of those who invest and produce in the city. The request represents the institutional position of the sector and not an already adopted measure.

The next survey should show whether the more than 120 closed spaces receive new activities, remain empty, or move to lower-cost corridors. It will also allow for evaluating how long the World Cup boost lasted after the tournament. The current data brings together two simultaneous realities: some products sold more during a limited period, but that relief was not enough to reverse the structural loss of businesses in Paraná.
