The Special Investigative Committee on LeoLabs will inspect El Relincho ranch in Tolhuin on November 10, where the radar at the center of a political, environmental and sovereignty controversy is installed. Committee chair Pablo Villegas called the visit with the Production and Environment Ministry and the provincial power agency.
The inspection moves the inquiry from files and testimony to the physical site. Lawmakers want to verify the radar's current status, connections, environmental conditions and compliance with measures ordering controls or cessation of activities.
Pablo Villegas is central because his committee must finish its work by December 15 and issue a final report. It still has to reconstruct who intervened in permits, what controls were carried out and what political or technical responsibilities may exist.
The case is sensitive because the installation is linked to a company with British capital in Tierra del Fuego, where the Malvinas issue has particular importance. That sovereignty dimension requires precision and a distinction between proven violations, technical risks and political interpretations.
The committee has also struggled to obtain testimony. Some current and former officials failed to appear, and lawmakers are considering meeting in Río Grande to facilitate testimony. Documents can advance the inquiry, but missing witnesses may leave gaps.
Specialists will be essential during the visit. Lawmakers can observe visible facts, but assessing radar capability, emissions, connections and environmental compliance requires technical expertise and documented methodology.
Villegas also opened the inspection to the press. Transparency can strengthen confidence if sensitive evidence is protected. Public coverage can show what is actually observed and reduce reliance on partisan versions.
The next step is to document the inspection, complete testimony and write the report before December 15. Villegas must turn a politically charged controversy into a rigorous reconstruction of facts, permits and responsibilities.
