Rogelio Frigerio defended Entre Ríos's pension reform by saying the provincial fund loses the equivalent of US$1 million every day and could collapse without changes. The claim frames a debate marked by fears of cuts and a debt the province says the national government owes.

Frigerio said current retirees will not have their benefits reduced and that the next payment will include a planned 3% adjustment. He separates protection of current income from rules intended to contain a structural imbalance.

He linked the deficit to a worsening ratio between active workers and retirees and to longer life expectancy. These trends extend benefit payments and reduce the relative contribution base after two decades in which, he argued, governments avoided reform.

Opponents and unions questioned the bill, while Frigerio rejected claims of immediate cuts. The conflict therefore concerns not only accounts but also whether the cost will fall on acquired rights or future retirees.

The governor also maintained Entre Ríos's claim for national funds owed to its non-transferred pension fund. Sustainability will depend on both internal changes and the still-unresolved national payments.

The vote does not settle the issue. The next test is the regulation, the monthly deficit and compliance with the promise to protect current retirees, together with any national recognition of the debt.
