Governor Juan Pablo Valdés confirmed that Corrientes will participate in the summit of the Regional Internal Security Council of NEA convened in Resistencia. The meeting will be headed by the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, and the Chief of Staff, Diego Santilli. The formal purpose will be to coordinate the Nation and the provinces regarding the possible effects of the El Niño climate phenomenon.
The activity will take place at the Gala Convention Center in the capital of Chaco. The national delegation will include the Undersecretary of Institutional Management, Eduardo Menem; the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandra Monteoliva; and the Secretary of Communication and Media, Fabián Fernández. The composition of the meeting brings together political, institutional and operational areas in the same regional table.
Valdés indicated that he received the official call and anticipated that he will take Corrientes' view of the needs of the Northeast. Their intervention will focus on coordination against river flooding, floods and other contingencies that could affect the region during the coming months. The governor called for working without pettiness between jurisdictions to improve response capacity.
The agenda includes reviewing action protocols, assistance mechanisms and logistical resources. The presence of Security and Institutional Management officials aims to order what task each level of the State would assume in an emergency. For Corrientes, crossed by the Paraná and Uruguay rivers and with exposed riverside locations, the discussion has an immediate dimension linked to prevention, communication and operational deployment. The history of extraordinary floods explains why preparation for El Niño was defined as a common priority for the Northeast.
The meeting will also have a political reading. Valdés will share the agenda with Karina Milei, one of the main people responsible for the territorial assembly of La Libertad Avanza, and with Santilli, in charge of the Casa Rosada's relationship with the provincial governments. The summit will thus offer a space to discuss climate risks, but also to measure Corrientes' link with the national leadership core.
The meeting will be the concrete instance to transform this call into verifiable commitments. The authorities must specify the common protocols, assistance channels and logistics available for NEA. At the same time, it will be exposed whether the Regional Council can sustain stable coordination beyond the current situation and articulate an agenda where internal security, infrastructure and risk management depend on shared decisions.
