Santa Fe ended the first half of 2026 with 73 homicides across the province, compared with 241 cases in the same period of 2023. The provincial government said the decline reached 67% and represented the lowest figure in the past 25 years.
The reduction was also recorded in the main urban centres. Homicides fell 70% in Rosario, while La Capital department registered a 57% decline.
Government spokesperson Virginia Coudannes attributed the result to a security strategy based on investment, close monitoring of investigations, prevention and assistance for victims. She also highlighted the direct involvement of Governor Maximiliano Pullaro and Security Minister Pablo Cococcioni in planning the measures.
Coudannes said the provincial policy had reversed the trend seen in previous years and stressed that the administration would maintain its offensive against criminal organisations. She also criticised the previous government and blamed it for a period marked by poor planning.
At the same time, the government addressed the arrest of six officers from the Radio Command and Infantry Guard over the alleged killing of Mauro González at the eighth police station in the city of Santa Fe. The officers were detained at the request of prosecutor Ezequiel Hernández.
Coudannes said the province would be inflexible with officers who use their uniforms and weapons to commit violence. The Control Secretariat is involved in the investigation as the judicial proceedings continue.
