Ricardo Quintela turned the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Bishop Enrique Angelelli's martyrdom and the Riojan Blesseds into a gathering point for national Peronist leaders. Senators, deputies, ministers and representatives from different provinces began arriving in La Rioja on Friday, July 31. The program combines religious and political remembrance, institutional meetings and a party forum before the central ceremony in Punta de los Llanos.
Attendees include senators Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro and Juliana Di Tullio, deputies Jorge Taiana and Máximo Kirchner, and La Pampa Government and Municipal Affairs Minister Pascual Fernández. Kirchner was announced as a participant in the Political Forum at the Light and Power Workers' Union. The presence of legislative and executive figures gave the program a national scale beyond a provincial tribute.
Quintela received Fernández at Government House and described their conversation as an exchange on the country's situation, shared provincial challenges and the construction of a more federal Argentina. The meeting introduced an interprovincial dimension: Angelelli's legacy became a framework for discussing current politics and the responses provincial governments seek to common problems.
Wado de Pedro praised La Rioja for keeping the bishop's memory alive and linked the event to society's rejection of coups, violence and the use of weapons to settle differences. His remarks placed the anniversary within Argentina's democratic tradition of memory and “never again.” The number of leaders and organizations attending, he said, shows that interpretation still mobilizes people fifty years after the killing.
Di Tullio emphasized the breadth of the invitation, which reached political leaders, social organizations and unions across the country. She thanked Quintela and La Rioja's representatives for creating a place where leaders could meet, talk and seek unity. The commemoration therefore served as a tribute but also as a setting to rebuild ties within Peronism.
The center of the program moves Saturday to Punta de los Llanos for official ceremonies at Angelelli's shrine. Cultural, academic, religious and community events continue through August 15. The gathering leaves two measures of its reach: the public continuity of the Riojan Blesseds' memory and the ability of political talks to produce agreements that go beyond a shared photograph.
