Axel Kicillof did not rule out the possibility that his political movement could compete with its own list in the Peronist primaries if the different factions fail to reach an agreement to organise the electoral offer ahead of 2027.
The Buenos Aires governor said primaries are a valid tool for resolving internal differences and selecting candidates. His position leaves open the prospect of an internal contest, although he stressed that reaching a political synthesis remains the priority.
Kicillof has been strengthening the Movement for the Right to the Future as his own platform within Peronism. Through that organisation, he is promoting a national project centred on his provincial administration and opposition to the national government's economic programme.
A separate list would deepen the debate over opposition leadership. The discussion involves the different sectors of the Justicialist movement and the figures seeking to influence the choice of candidates and strategies for the next presidential election.
The governor argued that the priority must be to build an alternative capable of representing sectors broader than Peronism itself. He also said unity cannot be limited to an agreement among leaders but must rest on a clearly defined programme and political direction.
Competing in the primaries therefore remains an option in the absence of consensus rather than a final decision. The outcome will depend on internal negotiations, the electoral system in force and the ability of the different groups to agree on a common proposal.
