Santiago del Estero's Economic and Social Council and the provincial Timber Industry Chamber moved forward with a joint agenda to modernise small and medium-sized companies in the sector and improve the use of forest resources.
The meeting brought together CES Executive Secretary Miguel Mandrille, Deputy Secretary Ricardo Sosa, CIMSE President Gustavo Diambra and the chamber's Treasurer Gustavo Domínguez. Their aim was to define strategies capable of strengthening local value added.
During the meeting, the chamber presented a technical dossier focused on process optimisation and the creation of a Carpentry 4.0 training unit. The proposal includes training in parametric design and the use of CNC machinery to expand the production capabilities of local companies.
Another key issue was the introduction of artificial intelligence into the timber value chain. The plan proposes using algorithms to improve cutting, reduce waste from native and planted timber, automate inventories and anticipate failures in industrial drying kilns.
Public officials and business representatives agreed to maintain sectoral dialogue as a tool for decision-making and for building a productive development agenda. The challenge will be to turn the technical proposals into concrete training, innovation and competitiveness programmes for Santiago del Estero's timber industry.
