The Celeste List won the general election of La Pampa's Provincial Road Workers Union and will remain in charge for another term. The group led by current secretary general Alejandro Melón received 62.8% of the votes cast on Monday, October 26.
The complete count gave 137 votes to Celeste, part of the Por el Buen Camino organization. Vicente Mustafá Olguín ran as deputy secretary, confirming the continuity of the team that had already been leading the provincial union.
The Yellow List, headed by Argentino Buldín, received 81 votes, or 37.2%. The two slates were separated by 56 votes out of 218 valid ballots reported, giving the incumbent leadership a clear majority.
Turnout reached 83% of the electoral register. Participants included active members and retirees from different parts of La Pampa, showing that the leadership contest mobilized a broad share of those involved in SITRAVIP's institutional life.
The election included a full count of all polling places and organizational and oversight work highlighted by the union itself. SITRAVIP thanked those who voted and those who helped guarantee the operation and supervision of the process.
Celeste's victory means Melón will remain the principal union representative of provincial road workers. The new term will have to turn electoral support into labor negotiations, defense of working conditions and responses to the needs of different areas of the activity.
The Yellow List will remain the main internal opposition, with more than one third of the vote. Although it did not change the leadership, the existence of two competitive slates demonstrated an internal diversity that will continue to shape union debate.
The next step is the formal beginning of the new term and the definition of a management agenda. The legitimacy provided by high turnout and a 62.8% majority places responsibility on the leadership to maintain representation, strengthen the union and meet members' expectations.
