Javier Milei confirmed that he has chosen his running mate for a reelection bid in 2027 but decided to keep the name secret. The disclosure places an unidentified vice-presidential candidacy on the political stage and formalises the president's intention to seek a second term. It also comes during his political break with current Vice President Victoria Villarruel, with whom he is engaged in an open confrontation.

Tension within the current ticket gives the announcement immediate significance. Villarruel had expressed concern about the president's condition and said he repeated senseless ideas and imagined others. Chief of Staff Diego Santilli responded by asking her to step aside. Milei neither identified her electoral replacement nor explained his selection criteria, but made clear that the vice presidency in a possible second administration is already part of his political design.

The president paired that decision with a proposal to change the electoral calendar. He repeated his opposition to the Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory Primaries, describing them as party contests financed by taxpayers. He estimated their annual cost at US$250 million and asked Congress to support their elimination, a move that would change how national political forces select candidates before the general election.

The 2027 agenda was not limited to names and electoral rules. Milei said that if he wins another term he will accelerate economic reforms as quickly as reality allows. He identified the amendment of the Central Bank's charter as the semester's main legislative priority: he wants to limit the institution's mission to preserving the currency's value, prohibit financing for the Treasury and protect its authorities from removal by the government of the day.

To support that projection, the president listed results and expectations from his programme. He defended the fiscal surplus, lower inflation, the removal of currency controls and the rebuilding of reserves, while acknowledging that part of the population still does not feel an improvement in income. He also said the RIGI has approved investments exceeding US$46 billion, more than US$100 billion under evaluation and announcements that would take the total above US$150 billion.

The strategy is therefore organised around three decisions that remain open: revealing the running mate, obtaining support to eliminate the PASO and approving the new Central Bank framework. Milei set the direction but did not say when he will disclose the chosen name or what agreements will sustain the reforms. Congress will be the first arena where he must turn that electoral and economic road map into actual votes before the 2027 campaign formally begins.
