La Rioja's Chamber of Deputies combined an institutional tribute to national senator Juan Carlos Pagotto with the approval of two new provincial observances. The ordinary sitting, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Teresita Madera, was the eleventh of the 141st legislative period and brought together matters of political memory, public health and institutional identity.

Pagotto had died on September 29. At the request of La Libertad Avanza deputy Andrea Juárez, the chamber observed a minute of silence and opened a series of remarks on his public and professional career. The ceremony did not change the legislative agenda, but it occupied a central place at the start of the session.

Claudia López, Andrea Juárez, Facundo Romero and Claudio Ruiz spoke during the tribute. Their interventions reviewed different aspects of Pagotto's work and conveyed condolences to his family and to those who shared his political activity. The commemoration was institutional in nature and included representatives from different blocs.

On the legislative side, the chamber unanimously approved the creation of a Provincial Day of Awareness of Cardiovascular Disease in Women, to be observed every October 9. The initiative seeks to promote preventive checkups and greater recognition of risk factors that may have particular characteristics among women.

Deputy Juan Carlos Santander stressed the importance of periodic examinations and of incorporating prevention into health policy. The law establishes an annual awareness date, although the information released about the sitting does not yet specify an operational program, dedicated funding or the agencies responsible for organizing each campaign.

The legislature also approved October 7 as the Day of Our Lady of the Rosary, recognized as patron and general of the La Rioja Police. The measure adds to the provincial calendar an observance linked to religious tradition and to the historical identity of the security force.

In addition, at the proposal of Justicialist Party bloc president Cristian Pérez, the chamber considered and approved several declarations of interest together. Those resolutions endorsed social, cultural and institutional activities without changing the content of the two laws passed during the sitting.

The initiatives must now complete the corresponding administrative steps for implementation and publication. For the cardiovascular observance, its practical reach will depend on how health authorities turn the date into preventive action; for the police commemoration, its concrete incorporation into the province's official calendar remains to be defined.
