The government of the province of Buenos Aires resolved that this Thursday it will join the mobilization in front of Congress against the changes to the land law promoted by the administration of Javier Milei. For this call, Axel Kicillof activated both Movimiento Derecho al Futuro, the political space he leads, and Partido Justicialista bonaerense, which he presides. The decision turns a national legislative discussion into a direct intervention by the provincial government.
The date of the march coincides with the resumption of the Senate session, which had gone into an intermission. La Libertad Avanza requested that pause when he warned that he did not have the necessary votes to approve the project called Inviolability of Private Property. With the debate once again open, the ruling bloc will try to move forward with an initiative that the Buenos Aires leadership considers harmful to the national control of the territory.
The Minister of Government, Carlos Bianco, confirmed the provincial participation during his press conference on Monday. He explained that the governor instructed MDF to join the protest and that he will also promote the presence of PJ in his capacity as party president. In this way, the call will combine the institutional structure of Buenos Aires Peronism with the own organization that Kicillof uses to expand his political projection.
The governor had already expressed his rejection when the project was going to be discussed for the first time. During an event in Avellaneda, he maintained that the proposal would allow the Argentine territory to be sold to the highest bidder. That definition established the axis of the Buenos Aires position: the discussion is not limited to the conditions of a private operation, but involves, from the provincial perspective, sovereignty over the land and associated resources.
The same line was reinforced by the Minister of Agrarian Development, Javier Rodríguez, who questioned the official argument that the reform will attract investments. Bianco, for his part, described the initiative as part of a systematic process of foreignization and stated that the project goes against sovereignty and the defense of national resources. Both interventions provide the foundations with which the provincial cabinet will accompany the mobilization.
The next point of definition will come on Thursday inside and outside the Legislative Palace. While the libertarian caucus will once again seek the votes to sanction the text, political and social organizations will concentrate on rejecting the reform. The participation of the PJ from Buenos Aires and the MDF will show how far Kicillof can transfer his discursive opposition to a coordinated demonstration in Congress.
