A new political alliance will begin taking shape on Saturday, August 1, in Río Grande. The Peronismo de la Soberanía Party, the CERRO Party and social organizations will present Frente Soberano at a Grand Provincial Plenary. The call aims to build a Tierra del Fuego alternative around production, work, social justice and national sovereignty.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at El Alambrador 251 and will include a press conference. Organizers describe it as the beginning of a process rather than a closed structure. Political leaders, activists, residents and organizations are invited to join a collective project with provincial and national ambitions.
Elbio Fabián Gordillo said the initiative grew from coordination among sectors sharing a critical view of the country's economic and political situation. Its initial party base combines Peronismo de la Soberanía, a nationally represented force supporting Axel Kicillof, and CERRO, the acronym for the Organized Revolutionary Regional Economy Collective.
That composition allows the alliance to present itself as broader than an agreement between two party labels. Gordillo said national and provincial organizations are already involved and that participation will remain open. The plenary must show what additional actors join and how far an alliance still in its founding stage can expand.
The scheduled discussion will address the social, economic and political situation in Tierra del Fuego and Argentina. Its promoters want the meeting to serve as a place for organizations and activists to exchange proposals, rather than only as a launch ceremony. Production and labor are central because of their importance to the province.
The new front also takes an explicitly critical position toward Javier Milei's government. Gordillo argued that national policies harm workers' rights, Argentine industry and Tierra del Fuego's development. That definition places the alliance within the opposition's reorganization and links its provincial identity to a dispute over the national direction.
The launch comes as different sectors in Tierra del Fuego begin outlining alliances ahead of future electoral challenges. Saturday's plenary will be the immediate test: it will reveal the group's real convening power, the diversity of organizations present and its first programmatic agreements. Only then will it be possible to assess whether Frente Soberano can become a stable force beyond its two founding parties.
