The honorary president of the Argentine Confederation of Medium-Sized Enterprises (CAME), Osvaldo Cornide, stated that the encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, by Pope Leo XIV, together with the homily delivered by the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge García Cuerva, during the May 25 Te Deum, represent “a manual, a road map to lift Argentina out of backwardness, disunity and confrontation.”
In statements to Radio Mitre, Cornide said that both messages “propose an agenda based on progress, well-being and the dignity of the human person,” and stated that “the development of a country cannot be measured solely by economic profitability, but also by its capacity to generate work, integration and opportunities.”
In that regard, he called on business chambers, federations, civil society organizations and intermediary entities to accompany and disseminate the message of the new Pontiff, considering that “Leo XIV's ecumenical and humanist outlook deepens the path begun by Pope Francis and offers an opportunity to rebuild consensus in Argentina.”
As part of that initiative, Cornide announced the creation of Fuerza Suma, an ecumenical and nonpartisan movement that will propose three lines of work: the development of an integral economic development plan, the reconstruction of national unity and the promotion of the principles of the Social Doctrine of the Church as the basis for a long-term country project.
The space will bring together figures from different political, social, union, business, academic and scientific sectors, as well as independent citizens, with the objective of promoting lasting agreements that transcend partisan differences and contribute to a national development strategy.
In that context, Cornide held a protocol meeting last Thursday with the apostolic nuncio in Argentina, Monsignor Michael Banach, during an activity held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires, which brought together representatives of the Church, diplomatic authorities and institutional figures.
