Carrefour definitively closed its Market branch of the avenida Presidente Néstor Kirchner 742, in Río Gallegos, and laid off 19 workers. The company attributed the decision to the negative business results that the establishment had been experiencing for a long time and presented it as a specific measure within its reorganization. For the rest of the affected staff, it continues to analyze alternatives that have not yet been publicly defined.

The announcement came on Wednesday after customer service had ended. Company representatives gathered the team and confirmed that the store would not reopen. One employee, who had completed a year in the job, said colleagues with longer tenure had sensed for months that closure was possible. Even so, the notification created immediate uncertainty among the affected families.

Executives who traveled from Buenos Aires explained to the workers that the measure is part of a reorganization process with closures in other cities. The labor testimony also linked the result to the drop in sales and the general economic crisis. These explanations reflect the positions communicated by the company and the staff; the fact confirmed in Río Gallegos is the permanent closure of that branch and the departure of 19 employees.

One possibility under analysis is moving part of the team to the Carrefour Hypermarket located in Paseo de los Arrieros 1098. The company did not specify how many people could be relocated or under what conditions. For that reason, a potential continuation for some workers should not be added to the 19 dismissals nor presented as a solution already agreed upon. The compensation process remained the immediate step for those who were terminated.

Customers in the Santa Cruz capital will be able to continue shopping at the hypermarket on Paseo de los Arrieros. On a national scale, the restructuring included closure announcements in Resistencia, Tucumán, Congreso, Villa del Parque, and Quilmes, with around 200 workers affected. The company linked these changes to consumer habits, difficulties in maintaining certain locations, and a reorganization of its network.

The next concrete data will be the resolution regarding the staff whose labor alternative was still under review. The number of relocations will determine which part of the team remains within the chain, while the 19 workers who have already been let go move forward with their compensations. The property on Presidente Néstor Kirchner Avenue has been closed; the remaining uncertainty does not concern the continuity of the Market, but rather the employment fate of those who were still waiting for a proposal.
