Salta has begun to outline its political calendar for 2027 without yet setting the date of the provincial election. Chief of Staff Sergio Camacho said voting could take place on one of the weekends in May or during the first days of June, a window consistent with the province's historical practice. The estimate followed Tucumán's confirmation of its election for May 9, but Camacho stressed that Salta still has no official date.
The time available to decide is not unlimited. Camacho explained that electoral law requires the call to be issued six months in advance, so the formal act could take place around November 2026 if the proposed window is maintained. Until then, the provincial administration says its priority is implementing public policies rather than bringing the campaign forward. The decision will therefore have to turn a customary period in Salta's calendar into a specific resolution.
The electoral discussion also raised the question of Governor Gustavo Sáenz's continuity. Asked about a new candidacy, Camacho avoided announcing a decision and said it belonged to the governor personally. His answer did not rule out that possibility, but neither did it present it as settled, separating the debate over the election date from the question of who will lead the governing project at the polls.
Camacho did make a political case for continuing the course begun by Sáenz. He said the governor took office with a government plan that still has pending objectives and that those tasks should be completed to consolidate Salta's development and takeoff. The chief of staff thus described an unfinished agenda, while leaving it to Sáenz to decide whether to turn that assessment of his administration into a candidacy.
The official also emphasized the governor's preference for dialogue and linked it to defending provincial interests before any national administration. He acknowledged that Argentina elected Javier Milei president and that Salta's government may agree or disagree with many of his measures. The position combines acceptance of the national result, autonomy to voice differences and an institutional willingness to negotiate from Salta's priorities.
The situation is therefore organized around two decisions that remain pending. The first is administrative: issue the call within the legal deadline and determine whether Salta will vote in May or early June 2027. The second is political and belongs to Sáenz: decide whether he will seek to remain in charge of the executive branch. The next verifiable milestone will be the call, likely around November if Camacho's window is retained; until then, neither the election day nor the governing candidate is confirmed.
