Rolando Figueroa is considering fully separating Neuquén's election from the national calendar, with February 14 gaining traction. In Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck set a window between April and June. Municipal ties, public works, the MPN's future and opposition alliances are shaping both timetables.

Neuquén and Río Negro are organizing their 2027 election calendars around a shared premise: keeping provincial races separate from the national contest. Rolando Figueroa and Alberto Weretilneck have both signaled that intention, though they are considering different dates. Timing is a political tool to control the local agenda and reach voters with works and territorial agreements underway.

In Neuquén, separation appears settled. An earlier debate between August, favored by Figueroa, and September, promoted by Mariano Gaido, has faded while February 14 has returned as a possibility. A summer vote would move the provincial decision ahead of the presidential campaign, although no formal call has been issued.

Transfers to municipalities reinforce that reading. The provincial government signed agreements worth 116 billion pesos with mayors and forgave contributions in places such as Centenario, Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes. These decisions give local leaders projects and assistance to display before year-end.

Figueroa publicly says his government is not campaigning and emphasizes management and Vaca Muerta. He nevertheless responded to economist Alfonso Prat-Gay to defend Neuquén's performance against criticism from Buenos Aires. The contrast between provincial growth and central perspectives is part of the government's political narrative. The exchange showed that the campaign can be built around comparisons between provincial and national indicators even before an election decree is signed.

The Neuquén field also changed because the MPN will not nominate a governor candidate for the first time in 64 years. Its territorial network is now available for alliances, and part of it is moving toward Figueroa. Gaido ruled out national or provincial candidacies and reaffirmed his municipal path.

In Río Negro, Weretilneck also rejected a national concurrent vote but set a window between April and June. Provincial law permits elections from March to October, and the governor says his own candidacy is not yet guaranteed. Fuerza Patria and Nuevo Encuentro are accelerating their preparations.

The field includes Juntos Somos Río Negro, María Emilia Soria's Peronist bid and a libertarian space involving Aníbal Tortoriello and Senator Enzo Fullone. Weretilneck's relationships with mayors in Bariloche and Cipolletti also matter, as does Bariloche's convention election.

Both governments point to the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur pipeline and the transfer of routes 22 and 151 as management assets. Neuquén may vote in summer and Río Negro in autumn. Final calls will reveal the weight of public works, municipal negotiations and the national calendar. The national decision on PASO will also matter because a suspension would change the number of voting days and incentives to move provincial elections.
