The debate over alliances for 2027 reached the Buenos Aires City Legislature before any formal electoral agreement existed. Claudia Neira, head of the Fuerza por Buenos Aires caucus, challenged Jorge Macri after the mayor once again spoke in favor of an understanding between the Pro party and La Libertad Avanza. The legislator shifted the discussion from partisan convenience to the city's economic and employment situation.
Macri had played down his differences with the national administration and said the two political forces share the goal of preventing Kirchnerism from returning. In an interview with Jonathan Viale, he argued that the challenge is to defend a way of life that he considers threatened by populism. He also said that the importance of what, in his view, must be protected makes it possible to put disagreements over Javier Milei's style in the background.
Neira answered with the opposite interpretation of that possible rapprochement. She asked what the mayor and La Libertad Avanza have in common and said their central point of agreement is the desire to win an election. To support her criticism, she listed three indicators of life in the capital: the deterioration of the middle class, the closure of more than 2,800 businesses and the loss of 38,000 jobs.
The exchange reveals two different frameworks for organizing next year's contest. Macri presented convergence between the Pro party and the national government as a political defense against Kirchnerism, while Neira sought to judge that alliance by the management results she attributes to both forces. The Fuerza por Buenos Aires leader challenged not only the identity of the potential partners but also the contrast between the electoral agenda and the difficulties she described in the city.
The legislator said her caucus would continue working and voting on the side of Buenos Aires residents. On that basis, she delivered her main reproach: the mayor should leave the campaign aside and devote himself to governing. The statement turns a possible national alliance into a local challenge and confronts Macri with economic activity and employment figures that Neira used to question his priorities.
The political definition remains open. Jorge Macri expressed his desire to bring the Pro party and La Libertad Avanza together for the 2027 presidential election, but the statements reviewed do not announce a completed pact. Neira, meanwhile, has already set the ground from which her caucus will oppose that possibility: not a debate over Milei's style, but a comparison between the campaign beginning to emerge and the daily management of Buenos Aires City.
