Bartolomé Abdala's emergence as a gubernatorial candidate is already reorganizing San Luis politics. The national senator and provisional Senate president said La Libertad Avanza should field its own candidates at every level and that he is willing to run if selected. That creates a third relevant option alongside Governor Claudio Poggi and the Peronism linked to the Rodríguez Saá family, which seeks to recover after its 2023 defeat.
The most immediate consequence would be fragmentation of the electorate that supported political change. Poggi won through a broad anti-Rodríguez Saá coalition, while La Libertad Avanza later consolidated its own national vote. If they compete separately, they may fight for similar voters and create an opening for traditional Peronism even without restoring its former support.
That electoral effect does not prove a pact between Abdala and the Rodríguez Saás. The source itself acknowledges there is no conclusive public evidence of a deliberate agreement. The distinction is essential: a candidacy can indirectly benefit a third actor without being designed to do so. Secret negotiations should not be presented as fact without documents, verified testimony or coordinated decisions.
Abdala must also settle LLA's relationship with Poggi. He previously denied an electoral agreement with the provincial government and said decisions will follow Javier Milei's national leadership. At the same time, the Casa Rosada needs governors for legislation, budgets and management. A national-provincial pact could reduce competition; a full break would require libertarians to build candidates, poll watchers and teams throughout the province.
His candidacy also raises a question of personal priority. Abdala said that if Milei asked him to remain in Buenos Aires as provisional Senate president, he would consider that role more important than being governor. The statement does not cancel his aspiration, but it creates uncertainty over his commitment to a provincial campaign. Voters need to know whether the bid is a governing project or a negotiating tool.
The Rodríguez Saá camp is also reorganizing. Reports place Adolfo Rodríguez Saá among those willing to run, while Alberto Rodríguez Saá appears unlikely to lead the race. A three-way contest among Poggi, Abdala and traditional Peronism forces each side to distinguish models for jobs, industrial promotion, finances, health, security, municipalities and relations with the federal government.
To become an alternative, Abdala needs a program and province-wide organization. Opponents will use his passage through several political spaces to question coherence, so he must explain past alliances, financing and candidate selection. La Libertad Avanza must also decide whether its San Luis branch is directed from Buenos Aires or has genuine provincial autonomy.
The next step is watching formal decisions: alliances, municipal candidates, Milei and Poggi's positions and electoral rules. Until then, alleged secret pacts remain unproven hypotheses. What is verifiable is that Abdala changed the board and a divided contest can alter the winner. Process quality depends on public agreements, financing and platforms before the 2027 vote.
