The Frente Cívico por Santiago was imposed in the 26 districts that renewed municipal authorities and kept all the local governments in play. The data from the provisional scrutiny attributed him 66% of the votes in the provincial aggregate. The result includes 25 municipalities and the Donadeu municipal commission, disputed during the day of Sunday, August 2.
The magnitude of the victory is also explained by the mechanism used in the municipalities where the ruling coalition presented more than one list. In those cases, the votes of the different internal expressions were computed within the Civic Front. The sum made it possible to measure the joint support of the space without hiding the competition that existed between its local candidates. Therefore, 66% represents the total coalition and not the performance of a single list in each district.
La Libertad Avanza was placed as the second provincial force with 8% of the votes. Despierta Santiago reached third place with 7%, while the remaining 19% was distributed among other parties and electoral options. The difference between the ruling party and its competitors shows that the opposition failed to concentrate the vote on an alternative capable of contesting territorial predominance.
Two victories were especially important due to the weight of their districts. Mario Benavente won in the Capital city and Llamil Abdala won in La Banda, the two main electoral centers of Santiago del Estero. The simultaneous conservation of both municipalities reinforces the provincial scope of the result and prevents the ruling party from compensating for urban losses with victories in smaller towns.
Citizen participation exceeded that recorded in the 2022 municipal elections. Although the provisional report did not detail the percentage of attendance, it identified the increase as one of the features of the day. This data accompanies the political reading of the result: the control of the municipalities did not come from an election with less mobilization than the previous one, but from a higher attendance at the polls.
The widespread scrutiny is still provisional, but it already establishes a forceful political distribution. The Civic Front retained each administration up for election and gathered two-thirds of the aggregate provincial vote, while its rivals fell below double digits. The next stage will be the definitive consolidation of the results and the transition to the new mandates in the 25 municipalities and in Donadeu.
